A Bucket Of Cold Water
Do not quench the Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NAS)
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Matthew 3:11 (NAS)
The Holy Spirit of God is like a fire.
When the resurrected Christ ascended into heaven, His apostles waited to receive the Holy Spirit of God.
'And suddenly there came from Heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit' (Acts 2:2-4).
Actors, models, and talent for Christ feel a burning passion within them that ignites when they perform. It's been described as 'a fire in the belly.' God's Holy Spirit is the center of their flame.
But God's on-fire performers begin with an ember. When a bucket of cold water meets an ember, the sizzle stops. The fire never gets lit.
Dream haters masquerade as fire marshals--pretending to be heroes while they point their fire hoses toward the dreams of future stars. Because these false firemen are not living in the spirit of their own dreams, they dislike the heat from the dreams of others. So, they try to drown it.
The Apostle Paul was well aware of Satan's unholy hose: 'For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God' (2 Timothy 1:6). We fan the flames of others with encouragement. We fan our own flame by moving toward the calling God placed within us.
Cold water has its place--but never to quench the Spirit.
