A Time Such As This
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?
Esther 4:14 (NAS)
In this passage, Esther's Uncle Mordecai urges Esther to reveal her true identity to her husband, the king, in order to save her people, the Jews. For Esther, stepping forward means risking her life. But she does it anyway. The king accepts her bold act and the Jews are saved.

Esther's story is of special significance for God's performers who pursue their calling in the talent industry.

Esther is a world-class beauty chosen among others as a possible wife for the king. She hides her identity as a Jew while she enters a foreign culture. Esther excels in the king's court--not just because of her appearance, but also because of her wisdom, spirit, selflessness, and generosity. She is ultimately chosen to be queen of an alien nation. God tells Esther when to step forward publicly. But it doesn't happen until after her promotion--at just the right time.

I believe the movement of actors, models and talent for Christ was created for a time such as this--a time of extreme darkness in the entertainment industry. 'For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples. But the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you' (Isaiah 60:2). You are Esther. You are God's stars who go out as ambassadors in film, fashion, music and theater--using your gifts to magnify Christ to others who have never known Him, to those who are hopeless, desperate, or lost.

What if you don't accept God's call to step forward? What if Esther didn't? Then your role will be filled 'from another place.' God will surely use the entertainment industry to reach and save millions of lost children. Talented disciples are being called up from their homes into the kingdom of Hollywood by the thousands. They know who they are. Some are as young as 4, others as old as 84. Yet they rise in an alien nation for a time such as this.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
