Acting School 2020: Dark Shadows ***PARENTAL DISCRETION ADVISED***
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Therefore He says:

'Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.'
Ephesians 5:8-14 (NKJV)
To rise from the dead makes you one of three things:

1) A blood-sucking vampire,
2) A flesh-eating zombie, or...
3) A born-again Christian.

Judging by millions of fans following monster media, dark shadows are popular.

Nevertheless, contrasting children of the night with children of the light is part of God's publicity plan. But it seems like the bad guys are multiplying: handsome faces with impish grins--waiting on the next kid to bite.

Because their director, 'The prince of the power of the air' (Ephesians 2:2), targets our youth. First he seeks their adoration. Then he takes their lives. This gruesome campaign is brilliantly disguised. He calls it entertainment. But when did death games become entertainment? Under the Romans?

In the mean time, an army of heroes arises: stars like David, Esther and Joshua. They are talented and beautiful, brave and humble. They are actors, models and talent for Christ: light-bearers in a field of darkness.

Satan roars at their entrance into this mission field. He's enjoyed his advantage, and he doesn't want to lose his position. In the last 100 years, he nurtured the growth of entertainment from a hobby into an obsession. For the most part, Christians ignored it.

Corralled in nice churches,
Clipped by complacency,
Charmed by conveniences,
Coached by comparisons,
Coerced by commercials,

Christians preached to each other and ignored the world. Media's blood games grew in intensity, like mold - thriving in darkness: breathing in life, breathing out disease.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: be warned. The enemy seeks to take your light. If he can't hide it, he'll try to tie it to his purpose. 'But now you are light in the Lord' (Ephesians 5:8), and Jesus will never be tied again. Nor will He be attached to productions that glamorize evil.

If He refuses to take part in this show (but you do), where does that leave you? Without Him--and that is a sacrifice no Christian should make.

So 'Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them' (Ephesians 5:8-11).

Say no to occult media--unless bad looks bad, good looks good, and the right guys win in the end. Because that's the truth--and kids need to know it.*

## Acting School 2020: DARK SHADOWS (Part 16)

NOTE: This is a 2020 edit of a 2014 Shine Devotion series, ...Acting School.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

* These are my thoughts. Yours may differ. I welcome your feedback.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
