Acting School 2020: The Breastplate Of Righteousness
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness...
Ephesians 6:14 (NKJV)
For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:17 (NKJV)
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.
1 John 2:29 (NKJV)
Righteousness is 'acting in an upright, moral way; virtuous' (Random House Dictionary).

For both believers and non-believers, for those who want to act right, one question rises like steam from a kettle: Are you righteous in self or righteous in Christ?

In Jesus' day, the Pharisees became self-righteous:

Caring more about form than substance,
More about head than heart,
More about themselves than others, and...
More about the kingdom of religion than the kingdom of God.

Old Carey was self-righteous: Caring more about proving myself right than yielding to the cause of peace. But God says, 'There is none righteous, no, not one' (Romans 3:10); that 'All our righteous acts are like filthy rags' (Isaiah 64:6).

Because every steam-producing fire comes from one of two sources: the God of Heaven or the pit of hell--and every fire from the pit of hell is destined to return to its source.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: you stand as witnesses against hypocrisy. Even more, the righteousness of Christ protects your heart from hardening of the arteries--which leads to heart attacks, and even death:

'Lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin' (Hebrews 3:13).

To practice righteousness is to practice humility--knowing you can never by your own power be right, but only by His.

If you get puffed up by your own glory (who doesn't), repent! 'If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness' (1 John 1:9).

Therein, righteousness by Christ is your breastplate in the armor of God: protecting your heart from the lies (lines) of the enemy.

## Acting School 2020: The Breastplate Of Righteousness (Part 28)

NOTE: This is a 2020 edit of a 2014 Shine Devotion series, ...Acting School.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Acting School 2020 series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
