All Things New 2020: Your New Tongue*
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:29 (NASB)
But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
Matthew 12:36-37 (NASB)
When I became a committed Christian, I didn't realize all the different opinions within the fellowship of faith. Whenever possible, I still don't. Because to me, among believers and brothers, pastors and prophets... doctrinal and denominational divisions appear to be devilish devices: separators stemming from the sins of Satan.

Without a doubt, when the Holy Spirit descended upon the first disciples of Christ, they received the gift of tongues.** The Apostle Paul spoke often in them and about them. Now whether 'other tongues' meant a divine download of foreign languages or a personal language between Father and child (or both) is one of those matters of opinion.

But here's one inarguable truth: Christians must speak differently than the world: unique from any other tongue, tone, talk, taunt, tribute, tale or talent.

Here's another inarguable truth: God's stars must speak better than the world's stars. Their performances must be unique enough to claim consideration, callbacks, castings, clients and causes. Because the ultimate Cause is conversion to Christ.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You are God's messengers. So, 'Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one' (Colossians 4:6). Within the entertainment industry, words of lust are common, so be uncommon.

Instead, speak words of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness. Show self-control of the mouth.

Instead of hype, speak truth.
Instead of complaint, speak thanks.
Instead of lots, speak little.
Instead of impossibility, speak faith.
Instead of despair, speak hope.
Instead of slander, speak support.

God will help develop your new tongue. Just ask Him. 'Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say' (Exodus 4:12).

## All Things New 2020: Your New Tongue (Part 12)

* Scriptures on 'The Tongue' and the power of words:;

* Scriptures on 'Speaking in Tongues:'

** 'When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance' (Acts 2:1-5).

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2015 devotion series, 'All Things New.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
