All Things (Part 14)
Pale In Comparison To Love
He said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the great and foremost Commandment. The Second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two Commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.'
Matthew 22:37-40 (NASB)
By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
John 13:35 (NASB)
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for 'Love will cover a multitude of sins.'
1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV)
A lot of things are disturbing to me: like fifty-million-plus war refugees: women and children who are brutalized. Cultural Christians also disturb me: people who don't look at all like Jesus. I'm grieved by greed, apathy, the FDA, bad examples and idol worship.

My list could continue and sometimes does. But mostly, I'm grieved with my sinful self. Too often, I fall short in joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness and self-control. Is God unhappy with my skimpy fruit? Can He still love me when my love's lacking?

What about Christians all over the news? Believers are troubled with governments and citizens not doing what they like. Or they might say, not doing what is right. But can we all trust that love never fails? If so, we may need a course correction.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Hollywood is witnessing a flock of biting Christians. But will Jesus be seen in angry birds or gentle doves?* Because...

Above every bad thing we see in others or even ourselves, love reigns. Above every conflict or Commandment we just can't seem to keep, love reigns. It's the bottom Line for Jesus and my personal fallback position. Love not only reigns, it transforms everything and everyone it touches.

So as the saying goes, reach out and touch someone, but do it right: in love.

To Be Continued...

* 'For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another' (Galatians 5:14-15, NASB).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
