Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
For who has known the Mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?... For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to Whom be glory forever. Amen.
Yes, God made everything we find to be right. But what about the wrong?*
In Bible times, the kings of Israel did many wrong things. Centuries ago, the king of playwrights bemoaned his outcast fate.** Even today, the kings of hostile nations hate God's people. Brutal warlords commit unspeakable crimes.
Closer to home, kings of big business worship profit as god. Kings of modern news spin truth out of focus. Kings of entertainment imagine stories. Kings of sports distract good men from the real war. Kings of culture tempt us to live selfishly. Kings of government disdain their Creator.
America is a breeding ground for kings. But we prefer the title, celebrities. As such, their power is unmistakable: the power to lead by word and example. Including big payoffs for bad behavior.
People of conscience are sorely discouraged. How should we react to obvious evil? Should we close our eyes and hide in our churches? Certainly not. Should we draw swords with holier than thou words? I don't think so. Isn't America sliding downhill fast?
Most likely but, 'Of Him and through Him and to Him are all things
.' Not some things but all things
. If we protest the test, we protest the Tester...
If church leaders fume against man's government, if we unite to rebel from its rulings, if fiery darts fly in proud indignation, if we try to change the world God has allowed, then are we following our chief Example? Because the Lamb of God understood His role.
In things both right and wrong, God was glorified. How?
'Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things
, believes all things
, hopes all things
, endures all things
' (1 Corinthians 13:4-7).
Because 'Love never fails' (1 Corinthians 13:8) to win. Even against every evil. Even in strong disagreement. Love covers sin like nothing else. Both our own and those of others.
