Ambassadors For Christ
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ...
2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV)
The dictionary defines 'ambassador' as a 'diplomatic official of the highest rank sent by a government to represent it on a temporary mission.'

That's you and me. We are ambassadors.

Our government is the Kingdom of God, and its Creator is the Lord of Hosts. Our King is Jesus, and we are His ambassadors among our earthly families, communities, schools, jobs, and nations. One day He will return to this planet for active Kingship, but until then, it's under enemy occupation.

As Christians living in an alien nation, it's easy to prefer a life of anonymity, striving to blend into a foreign world. This world is all we see with our natural eyes. It's all we know with our limited minds. It's practically effortless to look like the natives--maybe even to be promoted as one of their leading citizens.

We are tempted to adopt the culture of planet Earth. We are tempted to keep the larger part of our hearts here, rather than tied to King Jesus--whom most people still reject. Yet, God seeks wholehearted ambassadors who know how to live in this world, but not be of it.

Performers make excellent ambassadors. The challenge comes when a star doesn't understand his true role, Who cast him in it, and how to play the part. Assimilation into the culture of Hollywood appears necessary and desirable. But once accomplished, failure is inevitable.

Scripture provides every answer necessary for ambassadors of the Most High God. Jesus said, 'To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God' (Mark 4:11). We learn our mission, responsibilities, privileges, and rules of encounter through His Word.

Unfortunately, the enemy has established a stronghold in the entertainment industry. He encourages new stars to join him, or he attempts to silence them with discouragement. The last thing Satan wants is a star of light on his stage.

So, what is an acting ambassador for Christ to do in an alien nation?

Remember your King. Stake a flag for God in foreign soil. Be a generous, outgoing, and loving ambassador. Show everyone you meet how citizens of Heaven act and react. Show them the benefits of a homeland that welcomes all immigrants, and don't leave your post until the King calls you back.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
