America's Flame
You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods.
Deuteronomy 12:31 (NKJV)
So the Light of Israel will be for a fire, and His Holy One for a flame.
Isaiah 10:17 (NKJV)
And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire.

The Statue of Liberty holds a flame of freedom in one hand and a dated tablet in the other. The date is July 4, 1776. On that day we made a Declaration of Independence. It included these words:

'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.' Our founding fathers established this nation under our Founding Father.* This is America's flame.

Flame is passion. God loves passion, and He established America upon it. Fire has two meanings in the Bible: one is good and the other bad. It depends on who holds the flame and why.

Has America's flame passed hands? In a relay race for riches, did it pass from the Statue of Liberty to the angel of bondage?

By means of enchantment, did the baton turn into a screen named media? Did it multiply itself? Did its smoke cause blindness? 'The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, Who is the Image of God' (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Was our vision reduced to a phone in our hands?

On its small dark face dance stars, but their dance is twisted. Their light is false. 'And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Saints, your Father says, 'You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way' (Deuteronomy 12:31). 'For behold, the Lord will come with fire and with His chariots, like a whirlwind, to render His anger with fury, and His rebuke with flames of fire' (Isaiah 66:15).

But here's the good news: If you've been sent by God into this smoky drama called media, 'The Voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire' (Psalm 29:7). 'When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you' (Isaiah 43:2).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You are protected. You are anointed by the Lord Himself, 'Who makes His angels spirits and His ministers a flame of fire' (Psalm 104:4, Hebrews 1:7). Therein, you become hot stars for God, 'In the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world' (Philippians 2:15).

You run the same race of celebrity--but for a different reason. When He puts you ahead, hold the baton high as you cross the finish line. Then lay it down at the Feet of God--in full view of your cheering fans.

Therein, the smoke screen clears. Lady Liberty's flame returns to its Rightful Hand and America returns to a nation who says, 'In God we trust.'
