Are You Ashamed Of Jesus?
For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.
Mark 8:38 (NAS)
Are you ashamed of Jesus?
It's a tough question for actors and artists in Hollywood. How much do you say about Him before the door is slammed in your face? No one said living in this world, but not of it, would be easy. But how do you stay true to Christ in a sold-out generation, amidst a culture of temptation?
You take your love walk one step at a time, one day at a time, and one conversation at a time. The good news is that 'God is faithful, Who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able' (1 Corinthians 10:13). He knows your mission field better than you do.
How do you reach nonbelievers in the entertainment industry? Follow His example.
1. Talk about common interests, like Jesus did with the woman at the well (see John 4:7-42). Actors and artists for Christ share talents and trials with everyone in the same field. Show genuine concern for the matters of their lives.
2. Help the people you meet and judge no one, like Jesus with the adulterous woman (see John 8:1-11) or in the Parable of the Good Samaritan (see Luke 10:25-37).
3. Go where nonbelievers are and speak to them in terms they will understand, as Jesus did when he dined with sinners and tax collectors (see Matthew 9:11).
4. Become an 'Ambassadors for Christ' (2 Corinthians 5:20) with the excellence of your behavior, honesty, positive attitude, unusual humility, grace under pressure, and love for others.
During this process of living in a foreign culture, God will direct your path and fill your mouth with the right words. Like God's stars in the Bible, never compromise on the big issues of life: your love of God and love for your fellow man.
The joy of your life will intrigue those around you, and the timing of your confession of faith will be orchestrated by God as appropriate for every movement of your life. When the time comes, you will surely stand up for Jesus.
