Bad Ideas (Part 32)
It's Too Late!
So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, 'Remove the stone.' Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, 'Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.'
John 11:38-39 (NASB)*
In 2015, the New England Patriots did what they often do best: a come-from-behind victory against Seattle to win their fourth Super Bowl. Sportscasters called it the largest fourth-quarter comeback in Super Bowl history.**

Every sport prizes amazing stories of sure-losers who become big winners. Why? Because of the hope such endings bring. When impossible becomes possible, our lives are brightened. Our faith is boosted. Maybe our own dreams can also come true.

Jesus didn't have to grow up on earth as a human Baby, Child, Teen and Man. He could have accomplished His mission of sacrifice in less time, if He desired. But He had so many things to teach us, including a better concept of time.

We can't see the past, present and future, no matter how intelligent we are. Only God understands the big picture: 'I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done' (Isaiah 46:9-10).***

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You weren't built to know your finish line. Surely not for your life as a whole. Neither for the jobs God assigns you. You may learn who, what, why, where and how, because you're soldiers on a mission.

But the 'when' remains a mystery. What we are told is to continue: 'If you continue in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free' (John 8:31-32). 'He who endures to the end shall be saved' (Matthew 24:13).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Don't spoil your own surprise victory by giving up before it's over.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
