Bad Ideas (Part 4)
Who's Your Super Pac?
Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'
1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
Psalm 1:1 (NASB)
Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your Name, cast out demons in Your Name, and done many wonders in Your Name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV)
Let's get politically incorrect and admit some uncomfortable facts. Especially in America, we're interspersed with cultural Christians. That 92% of our Congress and 73% of adults say they're Christians is a majority.* But they don't vote or act like believers.
In a related way, my closest B.C. girlfriend (who's still a friend) is a Jew. Not only that, but her parents suffered for their faith as Holocaust survivors. My children grew up with her children, so I've been to Bar Mitzvahs and synagogue. Still I can say, she's a cultural Jew. She's not so sure our God even exists.
Cultural Jews and Christians may not realize they're in agreement, but they are. They meet together and follow customs, yet they're there by habit and not by heart. Nevertheless, they like hanging with friends--sharing common traditions and lifestyles.
Please know I'm not condemning anyone. I was similarly superficial. I pray that God seeks His wayward children and lost lambs encounter the Lord's Presence. I believe my prayers will be answered.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'Prove all things; hold fast that which is good' (1 Thessalonians 5:21), including your fellow believers. As 'A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity' (Proverbs 17:17), hard times will prove commitments to Christ.
You need to know your fellow sheep well, because your pack's values and pathways will influence you more than you know.
