Bad Ideas (Part 7)
Just One Bite!
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, 'If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.'
Matthew 4:1-3 (NKJV)
'For heaven's sake, just eat. A few bites won't hurt you. Hunger is a condition to be avoided.'

I'm fairly sure ice cream will be on God's menu. But for right now, it's a delicious temptation for a former three-hundred and sixty-pounder. Losing almost two-thirds of myself some years ago was my life's second greatest transformation.* Without a doubt, finding Jesus was #1.

Whoever thought depriving yourself could be good? The Trinity for Three. Their followers, for more. Why? Your body's benefits are too many to list.** But I doubt that's why Jesus fasted forty days.*** The spiritual benefits are even more.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: As a fat kid and mammoth adult, I condemn no one tempted by food. Nor should you ever condemn yourself. Most of the American diet is contaminated with harmful additives. Dangerous chemicals are allowed here that are banned in other nations.

The U.S. FDA sold us out for special interests and big bucks. I believe Satan inspired this greed. But for reasons of your own best health, self-denial as Jesus instructs, getting closer to God by result, your talent marketability and the example you show to fans, become aware of the foods you eat. Don't bite into Satan's ideas.

* Between the ages of 37 and 39, I lost 220 pounds on a weight-loss plan I believe was sent from God (even though I wasn't a Christian at the time). It's called The Holiday Diet. I wrote a short book about it, available for any donation + shipping/handling through AMTC. Email

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
