He was determined to go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:51 (NAS)
She was determined to go with her.
Ruth 1:18 (NAS)
'If we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end' (Hebrews 3:14), we will succeed. Do you have a vision for your gifts and talents? Where would you like to go?
Jesus was determined to go to Jerusalem. He had a vision of His mission, and His goal was our salvation. He was already famous; people flocked to Him from everywhere, and He could have stayed with His followers. Instead, He pushed toward His destiny. He refused to be discouraged from His difficult path or turned from His bigger goal.
Ruth was determined to go to Bethlehem. When her husband died, her goal was to stay with her mother-in-law, Naomi. When Naomi tried to send Ruth home, Ruth said, 'Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God' (Ruth 1:16).
God's performers are determined to go Hollywood, a.k.a. the entertainment industry--the enemy's mighty megaphone. It blows the cloak of innocence away from millions of children. Actors, models, and talent for Christ blow the trumpet of hope. They carry 'Garments of salvation' (Isaiah 61:10) as a new covering. They work for the King.
Jesus was destined to change our world, and Ruth was destined to become His ancestor. Determination carried them past naysayers and doubts, past fears and humbling circumstances, past Satan himself.
You, too, have an amazing destiny, and only determination will take you there.
