This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God...
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven
Why were we born, and what is our purpose?
Before Christ, before I knew the Word of God, these questions brought unwelcome intruders: sly demons who whispered ugly answers.
When I pushed them out of my consciousness, they hung around the landscape of my life-- taunting me, haunting me, seeking entry.
I first noticed them as a teenager. They called me hopeless, helpless and worthless. I think lots of kids meet them at that age, and some just can't shake off their suggestions. Two of my childhood friends took their own lives. So...
Dearest friends who learned the Answer early, don't forget your Captain's Great Commission! Don't allow the cares or cons of this world to cloud the importance of your mission:
To bear a clear and steady witness of Christ.
To be kind and surprisingly truthful.
To carry God's Light in every dark place,
Especially to lost and hurting hearts,
Who need their questions answered... urgently.
Now is the time to rise and shine in love.
