Beautiful Like Esther... Beauty Ingredients: Charisma
And the king said to her, 'What do you wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given to you--up to half the kingdom!'
Esther 5:3 (NKJV)
The devil led Him up to a high place and showed Him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, 'I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.'
Luke 4:5-7 (NIV)
Charisma is 'A personal magnetism that enables an individual to attract or influence people' (Random House Dictionary). The entertainment industry loves it. They call it the X Factor or the It Factor: 'A hard-to-describe influence or quality' (21st Century Lexicon).

The World English Dictionary describes charisma as power. As such, it's a two-sided coin.

Heads: charisma is powered by God: 'Great multitudes followed Him' (Matthew 4:25).

Or tails? You guessed it. Satan offered his own charismatic power to Jesus in the desert--because until that point, Jesus, the Man, maintained a low profile. Of course, the King of kings did not need a serpent's crown.

Neither did Esther. She gained her crown from God. Therein, her charisma (favor, likeability, popularity) came straight from the Top. Because the word, 'charisma', comes from a Greek word 'kharisma', meaning 'favor, divine gift' or from 'charis' meaning 'grace, beauty, kindness' (Etymology Dictionary).

On the other hand, some people chop down charisma and call it charm, meaning incantation or enchantment. Don't buy into that edit. God says: 'Charm is deceitful' (Proverbs 31:30). Even more: 'I am against your magic charms with which you ensnare people like birds' (Ezekiel 13:20).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Avoid charm, but ask God to enlarge your charisma. It's not dependent on beauty, but it will enhance it. If you feel more plain than beautiful, you're in good company. Jesus chose a humble appearance--but charisma made Him radiant.

Charisma will attract fans to you like living water to parched people. You carry their refreshment.

## Beautiful Like Esther... Beauty Ingredients: Charisma (Part 17)

NOTE: Parts 5-31 of this series are republished edits of a 2014 series called, Beautiful Like Esther. In them you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
