Beautiful Like Esther: Fading Beauty
Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:30 (NKJV)
When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity. You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor.
Psalm 39:11 (NKJV)
Bring Queen Vashti before the king, wearing her royal crown, in order to show her beauty to the people and the officials, for she was beautiful to behold. But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command... therefore the king was furious, and his anger burned within him.
Esther 1:11-12 (NKJV)
If the abuse of beauty is pride, leading to a lust for power and perks, then Queen Vashti became an abuser. She had everything most people want, and presto chango (a sudden transformation as if by magic)... she vanished! Or more specifically, she was banished--as in fired.

In one sense, we will all be fired, as in tested by fire:

'The fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is' (1 Corinthians 3:13). 'For our God is a consuming Fire' (Hebrews 12:29). ' 'Is not My Word like a fire?' says the Lord, 'And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?' ' (Jeremiah 23:29).

Jesus said, 'I came to send fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!' (Luke 12:49). By God's Word, all that is false will be 'Cut down and thrown into the fire' (Matthew 7:19).

If you are true, like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, you may be tested, but emerge as witnesses of God's protective power. 'They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them' (Daniel 3:27).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Here's the thing about superficial beauties: 'They shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb' (Psalm 37:2). So don't become one--and don't fall in love with makeup. It may be a job requirement, but don't let it become an obsession.

Off stage, be humble and natural. Because makeup will rot, Spanx will stretch and plastic will break. Manmade beauty will fail.

On the other hand, true beauty can die from a lack of light. So don't cover up what God intended you to be. Instead, honor it.

Legendary beauty, Audrey Hepburn, said: 'The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.'

Audrey Hepburn aged well.* As for today's stars? Judgment is God's. Love never fails. Prayer will help. Time will tell.

## Beautiful Like Esther: Fading Beauty (Part 9)

* Audrey Hepburn's son: 'My mother never thought she was beautiful.'

* Audrey Hepburn in her older age:

NOTE: Parts 5-31 of this series are republished edits of a 2014 series called, Beautiful Like Esther. In them you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
