Beautiful! Like Esther (Part 10)
Beauty Ingredients: Discretion
Esther had not revealed her people or family, for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it.
Esther 2:10 (NKJV)
As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, so is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
Proverbs 11:22 (NKJV)
Discretion will preserve you.
Proverbs 2:11 (NKJV)
In terms of beauty, Esther was discreet: 'modestly unobtrusive; unostentatious; respecting privacy' (Random House Dictionary). Esther did not seek glamour, but glamour sought her.

By the king's command, she was drafted. By God's plan, she was equipped. By her excellence, she was crowned. Esther showed herself as 'An example of good deeds with purity... dignified' (Titus 2:7).

Esther respected privacy. When Mordecai commanded her to be silent regarding her name change, she was. God says, 'A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.' (Proverbs 11:13). Esther proved trustworthy in all regards.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Today, few women are discreet. More often, they are immodestly pushy and conspicuously flashy--especially in entertainment. Intimacy is no longer intimate. Cleavage calls out to cameras, and cheeky has a whole new meaning.

Among Hollywood's elite, purity is not about clothing or conduct. It's about cosmetics and consumption--as in makeup and food. Organic is a whole new religion, and I am a believer. But it's not the best religion--nor the best faith. It's just skimming the surface, and we need to go deep.

Because we live in a unique moment. Among the mighty nations on earth, when has skin been so exposed? When has sin been so revealed? When have stars been born from the lowest private scandals--then raised to the highest public positions. By their celebration in media, the world claps and begs for more.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Beauty is like a mystery book. If you give away the whole story on the cover, the content becomes worthless. In God's Eyes, His gift of beauty is reduced to a gold ring in a pig's nose. If so, then media has a lot of pretty pigs running around.

Can they be transformed? Certainly yes--and you have a role to play in the process. Your entrance into this mission field will affect not only its viewers, but also its producers and stars.

Must you reveal what they reveal to work among them? Certainly not. To look cool and clean is chic.* Chic is not evil, and it can be used for good. Just do it God's way. He invented style. He also invented you. Discretion will set you up to rise by His Hand.

To Be Continued...

* Definition of chic: 'Attractive and fashionable; stylish; casual and understated style, as in dress or décor, that expresses a specified trendy lifestyle or activity' (Random House Dictionary). Word origin: '1856, from French, originally subtlety' (Etymology Dictionary).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
