Beautiful! Like Esther: Today's Beauty Biz
In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.
2 Peter 2:3 (NLT)
Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.
Romans 16:17 (NLT)
I can't imagine what Esther would think about our world's fixation with beauty. Surely, beauty's always gotten noticed: for better, or too frequently, for worse.
Yet with media's magnification of beauty in TV, fashion and ads, we are continually bombarded with a fabricated beauty ideal. We can lie and say it's about good health, confidence or freedom of expression. But as merchandizers know best, it's not.
It's about making billions of dollars by enticing us to comparisons:
Showcasing images of false beauty through professionally packaged models: adorned, sensualized and photoshopped to phony and unreachable extremes...
So we'll purchase pricey makeup, hairstyles, clothing, injectables and surgery--to copy models who are far from real. Slyly, we're beguiled by the king of con, who scorns God's wonderful diversity.
Satan shoves us toward conformity with his own narrow notions of beauty. Glamour's merchandizers follow his lead.
They're putting us down to build us back up. But this transformation is not of God. Neither is this structure built on The Rock. Nor do their images look like Jesus.
