And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
Become means 'To come, change, or grow to be.' By the Breath of God, dust became man: a living being.
Become is a combination of two words:* 1) Be: 'To exist or live.' 'Then God said, 'Let there be
light;' and there was light' (Genesis 1:3), and 2) Come: 'To approach or move toward a particular person or place.' 'Come
, follow Me' (Matthew 4:19).
Understanding the definition of 'become' invites a conclusion: Our lives are determined by movement. If so, we must ask ourselves, whom or what are we approaching? Because...
We become what we seek:
'Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you' (Matthew 6:31-33).
Consider these ancient worries in modern terms: 'What shall we eat?' Back then, famines were an ever-present danger, so people worried. Today, it's more about frightening food fixations, like anorexia, bulimia, obesity and yo-yo diets. Millions of lives and billions of dollars are fooled and fueled by a focus on food. Bite by bite, we become what we seek.
'What shall we drink?' Back then, choices seemed simpler: water was life, milk was abundance, and wine was joy. But drinks could disappear in a drought, so people worried. Today, it's more about delightfully devious drinks, like sweetened soda, polluted milk and countless intoxicants. Millions of lives and billions of dollars are fooled and fueled by a focus on drinks. Sip by sip, we become what we seek.
'What shall we wear?' Back then, poor people hovered in threadbare emptiness while rich people competed in high-style opulence, so people worried. Today, it's more about craving cool clothing for over-stuffed closets, like strutting models or stripped teasers. Millions of lives and billions of dollars are fooled and fueled by a focus on fashion. Zip by zip, we become what we seek.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Your lives are determined by your movements. Every choice counts. Every bite, sip and zip; every song, dance and act; every thought, word and deed. We are becoming...**
