Beginnings (Part 14)
Your New Age
I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.
Joshua 14:11 (NIV)
Saul said to David, 'You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth while he has been a warrior from his youth.'
1 Samuel 17:33 (NASB)
Consider two Bible heroes: Caleb and David. Under Joshua, Caleb was an old warrior who climbed a mountain to defeat a government of giant bullies. He helped form the nation of Israel. Under Saul, David was the young teen who took a slingshot to defeat the Goliath of giant bullies. He helped save the nation of Israel.

Bible scholars estimate their battle ages at the time as 85 for Caleb and 15 for David. Obviously, God loves unlikely heroes. 'God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong' (1 Corinthians 1:27).

Note to young actors, models and talent for Christ: 'Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe' (1 Timothy 4:12). You are frontline warriors in a youth-led movement. Your participation is vital for every reason you know, and many you don't.

Note to parents of God's youngest performers: 'Out of the mouth of babes' (Psalm 8:2), God has ordained strength. You know your young attention grabbers are unusual: not only in performing talent, but also in biblical faith. Their maturity is ageless because God has ordained it. Consider yourselves to be prayer warriors on every audition and set: praying not just for your children, but for everyone you see.

Note to mature actors, models and talent for Christ: 'Those who are planted in the house of the Lord... shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing' (Psalm 92:13-14). Because God says, 'Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs I will carry you' (Isaiah 46:4). Don't let the young go into media alone. Lead them, as they lead others.

Actors, models and talent for Christ, individually and en masse: Your age is both irrelevant and very relevant. Every age is needed. Every fan needs heroes. This age of media needs them most of all.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
