Beginnings (Part 18)
Your New Commission
Go into all the world and preach The Gospel unto every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved...
Mark 16:15-16 (NKJV)
Consider the definition of commission: It's 'an order, charge, or direction;' the 'authority granted for a particular action' (Random House Dictionary). By His closing Words in all four Gospels,* Jesus charged us with a direct Order. He gave us clear direction and royal authority.

Our duty? To spread the most amazing news the world could ever know. In a handful of Words, He spelled out the who, what, when, where, why and how of our duty.

From Whom? Clearly, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In their Name, we go, speak, baptize, teach and preach.

To Whom? Every creature.

What? The Gospel, God's Good News: 'A total life-change through the forgiveness of sins' (The Message).

When? Jesus spoke in present tense: 'Go, make, preach, send, teaching, baptizing.' That means now.

Where? All nations, beginning in Jerusalem.

Why? To make disciples of Christ: to feed the hungry, water the thirsty, welcome the strangers, clothe the naked, visit the sick, see the prisoners and love our neighbors... that each might be saved.

How? In peace. In newness.

Performers for God: Your commission is not new, but its delivery is. Because now, you can go almost everywhere by way of media. You can catch the world's attention with your talent, and feed the world's hungry with God's love.

But if you refuse your commission, if you aren't soldiers for Jesus Christ, then you allow the enemy unrestrained access. Up until now, 'The prince of the power of the air' (Ephesians 2:2) has dominated the airwaves of media. The result? Millions have followed its wandering stars.

Yet through God, your entrance eclipses his evil lines.

To Be Continued...

* Commission in other Gospels:

'Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age' (Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV).

'Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things' (Luke 24:47-48, NKJV).

'Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you' (John 20:2, NKJV).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
