Better Than Sleep
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Mark 1:35 (KJV)
We are cranky when we don't get enough sleep. We are crankier when we don't get enough prayer. Prayer is the most powerful force in the universe; 'Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive' (Matthew 21:22).

It connects us with God. As our loving Father, He is ready, willing, and able to help us with anything and everything.

Yet, we so often act like spoiled and willful teenagers- believing we know it all until we hit dead end or rock bottom. Still, our perfect Father is there! He is waiting for us to ask His help. He loves our gratitude, joy, true remorse, and especially our steps of faith.

Jesus Christ, His perfect Son, prayed often. Even in the midst of twelve eager disciples and thousands of followers, He was never too busy to pray. It was His first priority. 'He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God' (Luke 11:12).

Do you find your day full of activity, work, people, diversion, emotion, and fatigue? Don't forget to go to your Father, who is the Source of all strength, success, wisdom, joy, balance, and life itself. Don't forget to pray. Get up early. Jesus did.

'Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed' (Mark 1:35).

Prayer will make your day better than an extra hour of sleep. 'Then He said to them, 'Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation' (Luke 22:46).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
