Born Again Actors
Jesus answered and said to him, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God.'
John 3:3 (NAS)
I die daily.
1 Corinthians 15:31 (NAS)
All great actors must 'die' to their normal words, actions, and reactions so they can breathe new life into each role and make it real. We read fascinating stories of award-winning performers who become the characters they play--even off set.

Heralded stars, like Meryl Streep, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hanks, and Johnny Depp are 'born again' into every new part. It's a job requirement.

Their memorable faces speak to a camera as if they were in the room with us. We are moved with their trials and triumphs. We long to be their friends off set, too. Our desire to 'live with' our favorite stars fuels an enormous celebrity news industry.

I believe Christian actors enjoy a distinct advantage in bringing characters to life. They understand that 'dying to life as we know it' is more than a job, and the life they breathe into each role is powered by the Holy Spirit of God. 'As Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life' (Romans 6:4).

But their most vital role is off-camera. Here, God's performers excel beyond worldly stars. When adoring fans look into the private lives of His stars, they see Jesus.

They see love, service, sacrifice, openness, and joy that point straight to the top. Eager to share their faith-filled lives with others, actors, models, and talent for Christ won't be hiding behind dark glasses, security guards, or high walls.

Walls will crumble. Born-again actors will rise.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
