Called, Chosen & Faithful: Are We?
He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.
Revelation 17:14 (NASB)
If we were in church and a pastor asked: 'Who wants to be with Jesus? On His team?' Our hands would rise! We feel called and chosen.

Thousands of years ago, God asked Moses to lead His people to the Promised Land; 'God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses, Moses!' And he said, 'Here I am'' (Exodus 3:4).

Before that, God asked the future father of Israel to prove his loyalty; 'The Angel of the Lord called to him from Heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' So he said, 'Here I am' ' (Genesis 22:11).

And at the beginning of everything, 'The Lord God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?' So he said, 'I heard Your Voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself' ' (Genesis 3:9-10).

That's when our follow-through problems began. It's the last Word in today's key Scripture. It's the evidence of our commitment. (And without it, are we really Christians?)

The Word? FAITHFUL, as in our faithfulness... seen by how we listen and obey Christ.

Ever wonder why Jesus often said, 'If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear' (Mark 4:23)?

Do we act like teenagers with headphones to avoid listening to our parents? Avoiding God is ever-so-much worse.

In the Parable of the Marriage Feast (Matthew 22:1-14), the king 'Sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come' (v.3).

He called again, 'But they paid no attention and went their way' (v.5). Their selfishness eclipsed their faithfulness.

Looking back on some parts of my own life, this faithlessness sounds all too familiar.

NOTE: This is a 2021 update of a 2011 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
