He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.
In class at church, a question is asked: 'Who wants to be with Jesus?' All hands are raised! They are 'the called.'
Before that, God asked Moses to lead His people into the Promised Land; 'God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses, Moses!' And he said, 'Here I am'' (Exodus 3:4).
And before that, God asked the future father of His chosen people to prove his loyalty; 'The Angel of the Lord called to him from Heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' So he said, 'Here I am'' (Genesis 22:11).
And at the beginning of it all, 'The Lord God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?' So he said, 'I heard Your Voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself'' (Genesis 3:9-10).
That's when our problems started. It's all about listening and obedience.
Every wonder why Jesus said so many times, 'If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear' (Mark 4:23)? Maybe it's because we can act like stubborn teenagers who wear headphones to avoid listening to their parents. Why do we avoid God?
Remember The Parable of the Marriage Feast (Matthew 22:1-14), where the king 'Sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come' (v.3). He called again, 'But they paid no attention and went their way' (v.5).
Speaking on Part 1 of my own life, this story sounds uncomfortably familiar.
