I have a problem with the word, s_x. For hundreds of years, it meant gender. I'm good with that. But today, it usually means fornication: 'voluntary s_xual intercourse between two unmarried persons' (Random House Dictionary).
God warns us against s_xual immorality, so I believe the enemy connived a word switch--to help even Christians forget it. Instead of committing fornication, we are enjoying s_x. Instead of being 'fornicators' and 'adulterers,' we are now 'consenting adults' and 's_xually active teens.'
Maybe we won't connect God's punishments with our promiscuous behaviors.
Consider these statistics: over 1.2 million abortions are performed in the U.S. every year. 43% of aborting mothers claimed they were Protestant, 27% Catholic and 13% born-again believers. Could 83% of abortions be among self-professed Christians?
Over 65 million Americans have STDs, including one in four teens.* STDs, abortions, depression, suicide, the subjugation of women and an increase in human trafficking result from the promotion of promiscuity. What the media calls 'fun' I call a disaster waiting to happen. But the waiting period is over.
What's the antidote for promiscuity?
In one word: purity. In one action: flee. 'Flee immorality' (1 Corinthians 6:18). 'Flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness' (2 Timothy 2:22). 'Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled' (Hebrews 13:4).
But what if you gave up your innocence in ignorance? Reclaim it. 'If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new' (2 Corinthians 5:17). Including you. In Christ, you are pure.
Nevertheless and all the more, take a stand against promiscuity. Give girls and boys a better example to follow.
