Celebrity Poison (Part 7)
Arrogance
Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord.
Proverbs 16:5 (NKJV)
'You don't know and I do' (Tom Cruise).*

'He is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words' (1 Timothy 6:4).

'In this world, I call the shots and I think I know best' (Mariah Carey).

'By Myself I can do nothing' (Jesus as a Man, in John 5:30). His advice? 'Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight' (Proverbs 3:5-6).

'I am a marketing genius' (Paris Hilton).

'The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, 'He catches the wise in their own craftiness' ' (1 Corinthians 3:19).

'McDonald's market share went up 25 percent when I walked into those offices and changed their image' (Justin Timberlake).

'Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God Who knows, and by Him deeds are weighed' (1 Samuel 2:3).

'Some people are just born stars... and I was definitely born one' (Lady Gaga).

'For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself' (Galatians 6:3).

'I'm an ocean, because I'm really deep. If you search deep enough you can find rare exotic treasures... I deserve that Grammy' (Christina Aguilera).

'I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle' (The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:9).

What's the antidote for arrogance?

In one word: humility. 'A man's pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor' (Proverbs 29:23). Therefore, 'Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor' (James 4:10). 'For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?' (Mark 8:36).

To Be Continued...

* Tom Cruise battles it out with Matt Lauer on the Today Show. I don't like prescription drugs either, but Tom's arrogance actually prevents his message from being heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc_wjp262RY

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
