The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His sovereignty rules over all.
Our Lord is above all gods.
For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning.
Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.'
God is the Absolute Power of the universe: the Creator of Heaven and Earth.
In the Old Testament, God is called Yahweh 6519 times. Yahweh (spelled YHWH in biblical Hebrew) means the 'eternal, self-existent 'I AM' Who brings all things into being; Master; Sovereign Ruler.'
God is The Boss, 'The God of gods and the Lord of lords, the Great, the Mighty, and the Awesome God' (Deuteronomy 10:17, NASB). He is the Commander in Chief. 'There is no other besides Him' (Deuteronomy 4:35, NASB).
But some time ago, God endured a mutiny in Heaven. A chief angel, Lucifer, gathered support and attempted a power play. He lost. God exiled the revolting angels to Earth, and the heavenly hosts were divided: good guys on top, bad guys on bottom.
The enemy's team moved here, and God gave him temporary authority. The reason is hard to understand.
'For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts' (Isaiah 55:9, NASB).
But we're given this promise: 'That in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose' (Romans 8:28, NIV).
In the fullness of time, the Ultimate Good came to Earth. His Name is Jesus, and He chose to walk among us. A new power play began that would change everything.
For 33 years, God's Son wore a cloak of humility. Satan could not see His plan. Once uncovered at the Cross, His plan was revealed and His Light was blinding.
'The great dragon' (Revelation 12:9, NIV) was bound by Christ's might and overshadowed by His height.
Then God lifted us. Jesus shared His unassailable position of authority--by means of the Holy Spirit: the invisible Agent of the 'Invisible God' (Colossians 1:15, NIV).
He's like a Force Field from Star Trek and a Light Sword from Star Wars. Majesty and mystery meets media.
While Satan's reign of terror draws toward its conclusion, our King has given us a place of prominence in Earth's chain of command.
