Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
You fight in the power of God. You are soldiers in His army. But the enemy is active. When circumstances appear smooth, watch out. Evil lurks.
'Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith' (1 Peter 5:8-9, NKJV).
Evil seems overwhelming, but is it?
Consider a private in the U.S. Army on his first combat mission. It's dark and he's walking patrol. He sees a group of armed thugs. They have a hostage. If the private runs for reinforcements, the hostage might die. If he confronts the enemy, he stands alone.
Or does he?
The private aims his rifle at their leader and says, 'Release that hostage and flee for your lives. An entire division of the U.S. Army stands behind me. One shot from you or one shot from me, and you're all dead.' Their boss is smart. The bad guys retreat. The hostage is free.
That private is you.
The immeasurable Power of the Lord stands behind you. Not only that. He is within you--in the Form of the Holy Spirit: gentle as a dove but mighty as a cannon. Evil spirits flee from His presence--and yours.
But remember James 4:7 and the chain of command. Before the enemy will flee, you must submit to God.
In other words, you must be a humble and obedient servant. If you are full of yourself, you have no real power. If you are full of Him, you are a force from whom even Satan will retreat.
'Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle' (Psalm 144:1, NKJV).
Next, consider your weapon: 'The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God' (Ephesians 6:17, NKJV).
'For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword' (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV).
## Chain Of Command: Your Power To Fight (Part 6)
*The Whole Armor of God: 'Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.'
'Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints' (Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV).
