Christian Pitfalls (Part 21)
And He Who sits on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' And He said, 'Write, for these Words are faithful and true.' Then He said to me, 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.'
Revelation 21:5-8 (NASB)
Revelation Chapters 21 and 22, the Bible's concluding Chapters, describe the new Earth: what it looks like, who will be there--and who will not. They are thrilling, frightening and bound to come true. Surely, we must prepare for this great time. Preceding it will be a personal meeting with Jesus.

But the utter finality of Heaven and hell is hard for us to accept--as are God's absolute divisions of sheep from goats, wheat from tares, right from wrong, light from dark, obedience from rebellion--and blessings from curses. Were it not for the righteousness of Christ, no one could stand in God's presence:

'Indeed, there is not a righteous man on earth who continually does good and who never sins' (Ecclesiastes 7:20).

Satan would like us to remember these Words, forget Jesus--and never know the whole truth. To him, holiness is a hopeless cause. His goal is to make holiness a hopeless cause for us. To further this goal, he dresses up evil and calls it good. He serves up sorcery and calls it fun.

In media, demons are delightful and vampires are heroes. Witches are cool and magic is real. Its power is available to those who seriously pursue him.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: seriously pursue Him, as in Jesus--and nothing else. Glamorizing sorcery is Satan's game. Through media, he's made it more popular than Monopoly (the game of preceding generations).

Your job is to shine from the power of the Living God: to show the beauty of holiness. It stands in opposition to sorcery: a tragic trickery that will fail in the end.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
