Come Out Of The Closet
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.
Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
Other than for dressing or storage, the only activity that belongs in a closet is prayer. 'When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father...' (Matthew 6:6).

Beyond that, come out. Bring your faith to the light. Bring your work to the light. For entertainers, that work is performing, and that light is a spotlight. You are designed to shine for God. You are meant to be a star.

Consider God's stars in the night sky; they give direction to wanderers without a compass. Consider God's stars in the night sky of media; they also give direction to wanderers without a compass.

If the Holy Spirit is the only true compass and Jesus the only true destination, then people without them have no true guide. In the kingdom of entertainment, Hollywood stars wander after destinations of money and fame; they guide their fans toward the same idols they seek.

Therein lies the urgent need. Actors, models, and talent for Christ must shine in entertainment.

Why do so many godly performers hide their talent in a closet? Fear. Satan puts dream haters, difficult circumstances, and diverse obstacles in their paths. He does not want ambassadors for Christ on a runway, stage, or in front of a camera. He prefers them to stay at home, even in a closet, crying about their lost dreams.

On the other hand, Satan works diligently to promote dark stars. Great masses of people watch their sensual performances with grotesque fascination, with the same gruesome attendance as Romans in a coliseum watching blood sports.

If you are a Christian with a calling to perform, come out of your closet! Go through every door God opens. As you rise in the world's spotlight, God will give you a way out of every temptation; He will guide you on every audition and role.

What should we do in the closet? Pray for the wandering stars. Pray that they will come back to the light and use their celebrity status for God.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
