Command Performances For Hollywood #10
You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
Exodus 20:17 (NASB)
#10: No Shopaholics

Don't believe in soap opera bubbles or covet a lifestyle of wealth and fame.

Don't allow advertising masterminds to fool you and 'Make merchandise of you' (2 Peter 2:3).

You may think you're scanning things to purchase, but here's the catch: merchants are scanning you.

You're worth more than that.

As God's stars, you're raising a new standard: one that values Jesus more than jingles, and sharing more than accumulating. One where the only jealousy that flies is His for you- but never yours for stuff.

Does God's standard urge you to refuse jobs that sell products? Not necessarily. You're entering foreign territory as savvy sheep walking through wily wolves. Nevertheless, He equips you to be 'As shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves' (Matthew 10:16).

Like Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Esther, Daniel, Jesus- and most notably, Paul.

How? With your uncommon grace and wisdom. Regarding auditions, bookings and jobs, God will guide you on what roles to accept.

As His stars, you have a great destiny! If money follows, you'll live modestly. To avoid 'All appearance of evil' (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

Shopaholics should avoid Tinseltown. How do you know if you're fit for the job? By your humility and contentment.

## Command Performances For Hollywood #10

* 'For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law, that I might win those who are under the Law; to those who are without Law, as without law (not being without Law toward God, but under Law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without Law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. Now this I do for the Gospels sake, that I may be partaker of it with you' (1 Corinthians 9:19-23, NKJV).

NOTE: This is a 2021 update of a 2011 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
