And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
1 Corinthians 9:25 (NKJV)
Life on earth is a competition, and all creatures want to win.

But for people to win, we must know who we're competing against, 'For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places' (Ephesians 6:12).

The world tells us we are competing with people. Not so. We are competing with Satan himself. Therefore, remember:

1. People are not our enemies. Performers are not our competitors. They are brothers and sisters in Christ or those who need to meet Him in us.

2. How we act is all that matters--whether in the unemployment office or on stage with an Emmy in our hand. Are we acting as ambassadors for Christ--win, lose, or draw?

3. The results are in God's Hands--not ours, and only He knows the right timing for success. Both winning and losing will work to our benefit if we are patient, thankful, and stay in the race till the end.

4. Quitters never win.

5. We do not compete for our own success, but for the success of others who do not know Him. We fight for them. Lives are at stake.

And us? We already have a crown waiting in the hands of Jesus.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
