Complaining (Part 4)
Our Culture
Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord.
Numbers 11:1 (NKJV)
We should not test Christ, as some of them did--and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did--and were killed by the destroying angel. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
1 Corinthians 10:9-11 (NIV)
We live in a war-torn world. America pretends many things, including our peaceful purposes. Indeed, we are first among nations in a variety of platforms. #1 in convicts imprisoned, #1 in death by violence;

#1 in income inequality, #1 in richest economy, #1 in plastic surgeons, #1 in breast augmentation, #1 in total Christians, #1 in total Jews, #1 in media production, #1 in media celebrities and #1 in % of attorneys.*

Because of America's worldwide dominance of entertainment, because of entertainment's worldwide dominance of most people's time, earth's eyes and ears are filled with the values of our stars and their sponsors. Including dissatisfaction.

I'm tired and depressed. My boss is unfair. I hate how I look. My nose is too large. My thighs are too wide. My hair is all wrong. I need more money. My coffee's too hot. Your service is slack. I slipped on your floor. You owe me big time.

These pills aren't working. I'll quit this bad job. I'll get some new stuff. I'll fix my big nose. Yes, liposuction! And a new hairstyle. I'll go for the cash. McDonald's will pay. I deserve the best. Walmart can pay, too. I'll sue for my rights.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You live in a culture of complaint, an era of envy, a nation of protest: covetousness, accusation, annoyance, criticism and idol worship surround you.

But light shows best in darkness, and this darkness is quite deep. So don't be confused. Understand your role. God allowed this time. Stages await you. Avoid complaint.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
