For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.
Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Performers are independent contractors. A 'contractor' is 'one who enters into a contract to provide work, services, or goods' (World English Dictionary). Wise money management is vital to a contractor's success.
God's performers are dependent contractors. We enter into a contract signed in blood by Jesus Christ. Unlike worldly artists, we have two contracts to honor: a higher and a lower. Both involve money. Wise money management is vital to success under God and man.
Success under God: 1) 'Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase' (Proverbs 3:9). Tithe. 2) 'Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses' (Luke 12:15). Opt out of stuff. 3) 'But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you' (Matthew 6:33). Maintain His priorities to receive His favor.
Success under man: 1) 'I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content' (Philippians 4:11). Live simply. 2) 'Sit down first and count the cost' (Luke 14:28). Make a budget. 3) 'Listen to counsel and receive instruction' (Proverbs 19:20). Get good advice. 4) 'If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat' (2 Thessalonians 3:10). Get a job while you wait for bookings.
Common money mistakes include too much shopping, too many restaurants, not saving for taxes, expensive phone bills, and not being willing to get a supplemental job.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: understand the bottom line about money and its management: 'Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God' (Deuteronomy 28:1-2). Read verses 3-14 for specifics.
In obeying God's rules of money management, you obey man's rules as well. It's a win-win-win (God, man, you), and no deals are broken.
