Deal Breakers (Part 12: Holier Than Thou)
'Keep to yourself, do not come near me, for I am holier than you!' These are smoke in My Nostrils, a fire that burns all the day.
Isaiah 65:5 (NKJV)
God hates arrogance. I believe He hates it in His Own people most of all. Christians are His people. Therefore, God hates the arrogance of religious hypocrites.

'Why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?' (Matthew 7:3). The 'speck' is the sin of others. The 'plank' is your own arrogance. A 'Holier Than Thou' attitude is a deal breaker in Hollywood.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ must walk in the soft light of a good will ambassador--not the harsh light of an interrogator. Nor the blinding light of a hunter seeking sinners to shoot with arrows of condemnation.

'There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?' (James 4:12). 'Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned' (Luke 6:37). 'He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first' (John 8:7).

Jesus never condemned prostitutes, tax collectors, or people the religious establishment thought to be sinners. He condemned those who condemned others. Here's a good question: Who does God see as sinners?

'Jesus said to them, 'If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains' ' (John 9:41). 'If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin' (John 15:22).

In the light of His Word, we must search ourselves--not others. Let's never neglect 'The weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith' (Matthew 23:23).

Performers for Christ, here's your motivation: to reveal the heart of the King. A 'Holier Than Thou' attitude will send you home, which is where you belong until you grow up in Christ.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
