Deal Breakers (Part 2: Homesickness)
From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, 'Do you also want to go away?' But Simon Peter answered Him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'
John 6:66-68 (NKJV)
If the duty of Actors, Models, and Talent for Christ is to prepare and launch God's performers, then the duty of His performers is to learn and go. Decades of watching new stars rise and fall have taught us common deal breakers. A deal breaker is anything that causes a failed mission, a missed opportunity, or a lost dream.

Satan's mission is to seduce you. If he cannot have you, then he wants to send you home. Every person on earth stars in a show more real than any TV drama. Like AI, ANTM, or a big movie casting, millions are called, but few are chosen. How do you get called? God calls you based on your talents.

How do you get chosen? Knowledge and preparation. How do you avoid the deal breakers--issues that get you kicked off the show, sent home by an agent, or turned away from God's favor? Knowledge and preparation.

One of the most common deal breakers is homesickness. Yes, it is a sickness, and it is contrary to Christ. 'The one who is in the field must not turn back' (Luke 17:31). We're not even supposed to look back. 'Lot's wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt' (Genesis 19:26).

Homesickness hits us when we forget our true home, 'For our citizenship is in Heaven' (Philippians 3:20). Or forget our true job: 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature' (Mark 16:15), because 'We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us' (2 Corinthians 5:20).

God can't plead through us if we're parked on easy street with a group of familiar friends. Here's the thing: we carry our home with us when we abide in Christ (see John 15:4). 'He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son' (2 John 1:9).

How can we be homesick if we're living with our Father?

Practically speaking, actors, models, and talent for Christ can avoid homesickness in five ways: 1) Stay in God's Word. 2) Plug into God's church. 3) Pray without ceasing. 4) Keep your eyes on Christ. 5) As far as family left behind, talk only to those who support your mission.

'One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 3:13-14).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
