Deal Breakers (Part 7: Impatience)
To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV)
But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
Luke 8:15 (NKJV)
We are the get-it-now, ten-minutes-of-fame, instant gratification generation. Click. It's done. But is this God's will for us?

Every Bible hero passed through years of preparation and character-building tests before achieving God-appointed stardom. Including Jesus. Educated Jews thought the Messiah would magically appear.

'We know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from' (John 7:27).

Jewish leaders could not believe God would send the Christ to Israel as a baby to be raised under lowly human authority for 30 years. Much less that His parents would be working-class people. As would He. Arrogance blinded them to the character of God.

Don't let arrogance blind you. What is impatience but arrogance? That you shouldn't have to wait, that you've sacrificed enough, that things should be easier, that success should be on your terms and in your timing--not His. Basically, impatience tells God we know better than He does.

Of all the people on earth, shouldn't God's performers understand the role of a director? He has a whole show to cast, choreograph, manage, and advertise. Countless roles and parts must fit precisely for a perfect production. Because that's what God is: perfect. Nothing short of it.

'He is the Rock, His work is perfect' (Deuteronomy 32:4); 'As for God, His way is perfect' (2 Samuel 22:31). And if you give Him the time, 'He makes {your} way perfect' (2 Samuel 22:33).

'Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ' (2 Thessalonians 3:5), 'That you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises' (Hebrews 6:12).

'By patience possess your souls' (Luke 21:19), and your success. Water this fruit of the Holy Spirit with continued thanksgiving and determination. Believe in His timing.

Remember the patience of stars like Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, David, Daniel, Elizabeth, Simeon, Anna, and Jesus Himself. Believe in your coming victory.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
