Deal Breakers (Part 8: Instability)
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4:8 (NKJV)
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV)
He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:8 (NKJV)
Professional instability in a shaky career like entertainment is a deal breaker. Spiritual instability is even worse. Any way you look at it (from God's point of view or an agent's), you need to be rock solid. As a Christian, your advantage is clear. You're founded on The Rock.

But Satan would have us forget The Rock of our strength. How? Distractions, diversions, and mirages like shifting sand.

Consider calling your agent to cancel an audition, no-showing for an appointment, or backing out of one job because something better comes along. Consider going home a week early or deciding your headache is the day's priority. Consider yourself soon to be dropped.

Consider listening to doubts and dream haters who say your path is wrong, that you can't make it, that you should return to the familiar--that you didn't really hear from God. Consider yourself wavering.

Now consider God. 'Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth' (Colossians 3:2). 'That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting' (Ephesians 4:14).

The enemy hates your journey into the mission field of entertainment. He wants to prevent your rise. He encourages the defeat of double-minded second-guessing. 'Thus my heart was grieved, and I was vexed in my mind' (Psalm 73:21).

When you are hit by demons of doubt, recite God's Word to send them packing. 'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind' (2 Timothy 1:7). Because 'We have the mind of Christ' (1 Corinthians 2:16).

Honor commitments.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
