Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.
Our next deal breaker for rising stars is poor eating habits. Food was our King's first big temptation in the desert; it remains the first and biggest temptation for many of us today. In our appearance-driven society, Satan seems to be behind the wheel.
So don't let him throw you off the bus because you don't look the part.
Work to be in top physical condition for two reasons:
1) To set a good example. 'Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's' (1 Corinthians 6:20). Millions of people are sick from obesity, anorexia, and bulimia. Teach them how to eat. Show them how good God looks. 'But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified' (1 Corinthians 9:27).
2) To get jobs. 'Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it' (1 Corinthians 9:24). Inarguably, your appearance is a factor in getting work--even for actors and singers. 'Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's' (Mark 12:17). Hollywood royalty wants you fit. More importantly, so does God.
Countless models and performers lose jobs, health, and opportunities to shine for God by poor eating habits, including dieting, gluttony, and junk food. Entertainment meccas have thousands of food choices. 'Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live' (Deuteronomy 30:19).
Who are your descendants? Consider the totality of your family: 'So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another' (Romans 12:5). Eating right affects your witness--both on stage and off.
In the 'Equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ' (Ephesians 4:12).
