Deliverance (Part 1)
What About It?
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.
Psalm 50:15 (NKJV)
As I begin this devotion series, my daughter, Glynis, will soon deliver. Baby #2, named Vivian, will be released to begin a brand new life. Her mom's womb will be released of its load.* If we look back to the root meaning of the word, to deliver is to set free.**

Even so, the action of deliverance has more then a few definitions: as in launch, give, decree or hand over. Like a ball, pizza, verdict or prisoner. But for now, I'm focusing on deliverance known by freedom from oppression. It's certainly a theme of the Bible and one big reason Jesus came to earth:

'To preach deliverance to the captives... to set at liberty them that are bruised' (Luke 4:18).

In some churches, deliverance and liberty are disagreeable topics. Not the promise of them, but their practice. We agree Jesus is our Champion. We agree Satan is our enemy, along with demons and evil powers. We agree men are bound by sin and death, freed only by faith in man's Redeemer.

We agree the Lord is our Avenger, and He speaks of our defensive armor. We stand by His Son, Name, Spirit and Word.

But if Jesus died to set us free, not just in Heaven but here on earth, if His Spirit seals us as a Pledge, with peace surpassing understanding, then why are so many Spirited believers depressed and tormented?*** Do we lack faith, prayer or devotion? On these sore subjects, we disagree.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: As rising stars in a modern age, as freedom fighters on God's stage, deliverance is your business. For you and me, I seek God's wisdom.

To Be Continued...

* Vivian was delivered on August 4. Mother are child are recovering and adjusting well. Praise God!

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
