Deliverance (Part 29)
By His Word
If you continue in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
John 8:31-32 (NASB)
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,

And He saved them out of their distresses.

He sent His Word and healed them,

And delivered them from their destructions.

Psalm 107:19-20 (NKJV)
If Jesus is the Word of God, if He is our Deliverer, then freedom is a two-edged Sword. One side reflects the Man of love. The other side cuts like a knife. Or more precisely, a scalpel: a scalpel held by the Healer.

'For the Word of God is living and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword...' (Hebrews 4:12).

With the skill of an unmatched Surgeon, He delivers us from destructions. 'The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God' (Ephesians 6:17), is not held, but spoken: 'Now out of His Mouth goes a sharp Sword' (Revelation 19:15).

In His exercise of desert deployment, Jesus was alone: a tired and hungry Man. He assumed the rank of an army private, to show His future saints how to fight and win. But He held two invisible Resources: God's Holy Spirit and knowledge of Scripture.

When Satan hit Him with temptations, Jesus hit back with the Word of God. The enemy retreated and left. Today, His unseen Allies still work. Quite eager to do battle for us, these combat Veterans never lose.

So we must continue in His Word, until His Lines become our life-Lines. We must honor Him above all else, in deference as our Commander:

'If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him' (John 14:23).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
