Deliverance (Part 38)
Because you have forsaken the Lord, He has also forsaken you.
2 Chronicles 24:20 (NASB)
Therefore, thus says the Lord God, 'Because you have forgotten Me and cast Me behind your back, bear now the punishment of your lewdness and your harlotries.'
Ezekiel 23:35 (NASB)
You neglected the Rock Who begot you, and forgot the God Who gave you birth. The Lord saw this, and spurned them... Then He said, 'I will hide My Face from them, I will see what their end shall be; For they are a perverse generation, sons in whom is no faithfulness. They have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols.'
Deuteronomy 32:18-21 (NASB)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the Law of your God, I also will forget your children.
Hosea 4:6 (NASB)
Living in this world and not becoming of this world, not copying its leaders, not desiring its prizes, not buying its fairy tales, nor selling yourself to them... is almost impossible. Given a chance at stardom, who wouldn't want to become an American idol?
Jesus, for One. He's also the One Who gives us the power to become leaders with integrity, lovers of simplicity, dealers in sincerity, risers by deliverance and ambassadors for Christ.
But what if Christians choose to live like the world? Would God choose to discontinue His favor? It happened to the children of Israel. Could it happen to us like it did to them?
Consider God's Letter to the Lukewarm Church in Revelation: Their hearts were divided: They looked like the world, but still went to church: 'So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My Mouth' (Revelation 3:16).*
Surely, a God of perfect wisdom doesn't reward bad choices with good blessings. Unless we think a harsh correction is a blessing in disguise, which it may be:
'Deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus' (1 Corinthians 5:5).
