Deliverance (Part 4)
Church Opinions
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV)
Nor give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:27 (NKJV)
But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!
2 Corinthians 11:3-4 (NKJV)
He who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
1 John 5:18 (NKJV)
What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: 'I will dwell in them and walk among them.'
2 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV)
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love...
Colossians 1:13 (NKJV)
Can a Christian be demon-possessed? That's quite an unpopular question. It ruffles our beautiful feathers. It offends our sense of righteousness. It disturbs our Sunday procedures. If such a nasty thing truly happens, surely it happens to outsiders.

Today's first three Verses are quoted to say, Yes: A believer can be possessed.* But the last three Verses seem to differ: No, a believer cannot be possessed.**

I can't answer this question for you. But I ask you to consider it. Don't just accept a church party line. Examine His Words personally. Pray for His wisdom and clarity.*** Discuss it with different people. Then wait and expect revelation.

If Verses seem contradictory, They never really are. None of us can know every reason, because we're not that smart. But here's my strong recommendation: Go straight to the Top with your questions. Jesus is the first and final Word.

Why, you might ask, should we dig in this ugly spot? If we're happy, can't we leave well enough alone? No, we can't, because people are in agony: gut-wrenching, pill-popping, life-taking agony.

They are depressed, panicked and acting quite rashly. Note to selves: Christians suffer these same dark attacks. If demon oppression or possession is real, if we can give and receive God's deliverance, shouldn't we?

*** God gives wisdom: 'If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind' (James 1:5-6).

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
