Depression Solutions: Speaking It Out
Let the weak say, 'I am strong.'
Joel 3:10 (NKJV)
Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the Word of the Lord!'
Ezekiel 37:4 (NIV)
He will be raised on the third day.
Matthew 17:23 (NASB)
If 'Everything is possible for one who believes' (Mark 9:23, NIV)... if 'Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God' (Romans 10:17, NKJV)... if 'Life and death are in the power of the tongue' (Proverbs 18:21, BSB)... then what we hear is crucial.

Words can harm us or heal us. 'Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones' (Proverbs 16:24, NASB); 'A soothing tongue is a tree of life' (Proverbs 15:4, NASB).

If 'The father of lies' (John 8:44, NASB) seeks to depress us with bad news, false friends and twisted tunes, then we must turn down the sound. How? Focus on good news, real friends and straight-up worship. Therein, put on God's protective headgear, the 'Helmet of Salvation,' (Ephesians 6:17, NASB) every morning.*

And remember: God says attacks (including word bombs) will come back upon the attacker.**

What about the harmful words we speak over ourselves? Common lines, like, 'I'm depressed... I hate my life... I'm sick, ugly, useless or stupid... I'll never get chosen... I might as well give up.'

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You're not common. So don't fall into verbal pitfalls. Consider Psalm 13, a Psalm of depression.*** Even so, its last Lines need to be your last Lines:

'But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me' (Psalm 13:5-6, NASB).

Depression could not defeat King David, and it will not defeat you. He spoke his victory into existence.

Therein, if you harbor any dry bones of depression, speak life to them. Transform them by the power of God, 'Who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist' (Romans 4:17, NASB).

Ezekiel tested it in the desert. Jesus proved it in the tomb, and you can use it today: restoration. In the Name of Jesus, speak restoration... to others, and surely to yourself.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
