'Hurry up and wait' is commanded by bureaucrats, directors and God. But oh, how hard it is to do.
Asking for a governmental service? Come early and take a number. Hoping for a big part? Submit quickly and sweat it out. Believing God for a special delivery? 'Wait, I say, on the Lord' (Psalm 27:14, NKJV).
The Bible's all about waiting.* Just ask Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and David. Each faced years of challenges (and in David's case, great depression), but all of them waited it out.
Even 'The Ancient of Days' (Daniel 7:9, NASB) 'Was grieved in His Heart' (Genesis 6:6, NASB) over the condition of mankind. Still, He waited thousands of years to send Jesus as our Remedy.
Consider one beloved theologian's thoughts about waiting:
'If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord's people have always been a waiting people' (Charles Spurgeon).**
Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand' (James 5:7-8, NKJV).
Even more, 'The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance' (2 Peter 3:9, NKJV).
Concerning depression, hurry up and consider God's advice; hurry up and consider the proposed solutions in this devotion series; hurry up and consider yourself blessed that you're counted worthy to suffer...
Then look on the bright side and wait it out. Help is on the way.
'For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, it will not tarry' (Habakkuk 2:3, NKJV).
