Dieting And Deception
That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting...
Ephesians 4:14 (NKJV)
How many 'diets' have you tried or seen advertised? Even before fad diets, Satan scored a golden touchdown of deception by convincing millions of overworked people that junk food is real food--therein making them fat. It stands among the world's biggest cons.

He continues to add insult to injury with a 'great new diet' each month.

The enormity of this trickery is eclipsed only by the enormity of the problem. Physicians and economists unite to report our growing waistlines as a primary cause of disease. Therein, obesity becomes a primary cause of our national debt.

Experts shake their heads, point their fingers, and fling around band-aid solutions. But flying band-aids can't cover an epidemic. Evidently, the problem is too big for the world's smartest men to fix.

The Bible warns us not to be fooled 'by the trickery of men in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.' Since we watch ads more than we read God's Word, most of us missed that part. Consequently, we've been brainwashed by slick marketing that dresses up junk food and convinces us that 'things go better with Coca-Cola.'

'Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter' (Isaiah 5:20).

God tells us to grow up. Junk is not food. Soft drinks are not healthy. Diets do not work. But God works and Jesus delivers--not pizza, but freedom.

'Lord Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. Help us! Heal us! Deliver us from bondage to artificial foods and destructive diets. Open our eyes and teach us! Help us live in the health of mind, body, and spirit that You died to give us.'

Christ followers: instead of growing our waistlines, let us grow as 'Holy temple{s} in the Lord' (Ephesians 2:21), into 'Mighty men of valor, fit to go out for war and battle' (1 Chronicles 7:11), because a battle is upon God's people.

We must be fit to be an example. We must be fit for duty.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
