Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble.
Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
The greatest Man Who ever lived on earth humbled Himself to earth's greatest degree. Starting with His birthplace in a stable, holding a questionable pedigree, growing up in a town of low regard, relishing a working Man's vocation, becoming an itinerate Preacher, displaying no riches or possessions...
Accepting no human ordination, choosing uneducated disciples, washing dirty feet as their Servant, allowing evil men to arrest Him, remaining silent amidst their lies, yielding to beatings and crucifixion, wearing the shame of a crown made with thorns and watching His disciples turn away, the King of kings modeled humility.
From His Life's beginning until Its end, Jesus hung among everyday people. He sought out the poor, the blind, the captives, the oppressed and even flagrant sinners. He sought humble hearts open to God's Word. He did not seek the rich, the proud, the schooled, the successful or religious leaders.
He associated with the people who preferred God's promotion to their own, and He demonstrated the importance of choosing close friends and peer groups wisely.
'The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray' (Proverbs 12:26, NKJV).
'He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed' (Proverbs 13:20, NKJV).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Disregard a preacher's lovely words and high-achieving congregations, unless he looks and walks like Jesus; unless he models humility and associates with the humble.
Many stars within entertainment are filled with pomp and ceremony, but they don't know the Standard of Christ. They're part of your target audience, and through you they make His acquaintance.
## Do-Gooders: Associate With The Humble (Part 95)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.
