Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.
Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.
And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.
Clearly, Jesus liked to teach with stories. His reasoning wasn't apparent, so His disciples asked a key question:
'Why do You speak to them in parables?'
'He answered and said to them, 'Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand' ' (Matthew 13:10-13).*
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Now I can see the flawless finesse when Jesus witnessed indirectly. He was setting up a Treasure hunt.
He didn't throw around God's Good News before some pigs who would trample It. At the same time, future disciples would be intrigued and discover It.
This communication strategy has been missed by so much of our church. We've been overtly unappealing: tossing around Verses and sermons that seem like holy roller nonsense to outsiders. (I know, because I used to be an outsider, too.)
I have confidence in your finesse: that you'll smile and hint at mysteries just beneath the surface of your life. Those who are called by God toward Christ will ask you the Reason for your hope. Those who are scoffers sent by Satan won't have anything to ridicule.
They'll be left in the dust from your feet.

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.
